For this recently completed patio cover project in Spring Branch, Houston, our team transformed an open, uncovered patio into a beautiful and functional outdoor living space designed to feel like a natural extension of the home.

The existing backyard already offered plenty of space, but without a roof overhead, the homeowners had limited protection from Houston’s sun and unpredictable rain. Our goal was to create a custom gable patio cover that would provide plenty of shade and coverage while complementing the existing architecture of the home.

From an Uncovered Patio to a Beautiful Outdoor Living Space

Before construction, the home had an open patio positioned between several existing rooflines. This presented an interesting design challenge: the new structure needed to provide substantial coverage without making the backyard feel enclosed or looking like an obvious addition.

We designed a large gable-style patio cover that brings the different areas of the home together and creates one cohesive outdoor living space.

The elevated gable design gives the patio an open, spacious feeling while creating a beautiful architectural focal point when looking at the home from the backyard.

Custom Details That Make This Spring Branch Patio Cover Stand Out

One of our favorite features of this project is the stained wood ceiling inside the front gable. The natural warmth of the wood creates a beautiful contrast against the darker beams and trim.

The exposed decorative truss adds another custom architectural element and gives the front of the patio cover a finished, high-end appearance.

We also incorporated recessed lighting and a ceiling fan, making the patio more comfortable and functional throughout the day and into the evening.

From the roofline and shingles to the columns, beams, trim, and finishing details, each part of the structure was carefully designed to complement the existing home.

That is always one of our biggest goals at HHI Patio Covers: a new patio cover should look like it belongs with the home—not like it was simply added onto it.
